Owning a car can be expensive, and with the current global crisis, making sure your cash goes as far as possible is more important than ever. Reduce the costs of car maintenance and keep your car on the road for less with these basic tips and tricks!
A simple change in the way you drive can extend the life of your clutch, brakes and tyres, while saving petrol. Drive at a calm pace, keep your revs low, and brake gently. Avoid riding the clutch while waiting at a traffic light or stop street, as this puts unnecessary strain on your clutch.
Your car probably came with an owner’s manual, and all this extra free time provides the perfect opportunity to learn how to save money by doing some simple work on your car at home. With a bit of time and practice, you’ll be able to change the oil, air filters, fuses, bulbs and more! However, if your car is still under warranty, home repairs may impact your policy – it’s best to check with your service provider before embarking on at-home maintenance.
Be cautious of conducting repairs, services and fitments at unaccredited dealerships, service centres and fitment centres which may fit unapproved accessories or second-hand parts, or perform services you don’t need. Do some research beforehand and only go to service and fitment centres that you can trust; using a well-reputed service centre has the added benefit of increasing your car’s trade-in value. It’s also wise to make sure that the centre you go to has the products you’re looking for before you get there, or you may end up with a sub-standard alternative.
Good parts aren’t cheap and cheap parts aren’t good. “Saving money” by buying inferior parts or by accessorising your vehicle with unapproved accessories is a false economy, as these will only end up costing you more in the long run. They could negatively affect your vehicle warranty, and may not last as long as the OEM-approved alternative. Always invest in high-quality spare parts and your car will thank you!
If your vehicle is outside of the warranty period, many OEM manufacturers of parts and accessories also produce high-quality aftermarket alternatives. When looking for a more cost-effective aftermarket solution, aim for a manufacturer who also offers an OEM-approved product, as this will give you the peace of mind knowing that you have selected an OEM-quality aftermarket alternative.
If you’re thinking about fitting your vehicle with nudge bars, styling bars, side steps, sports bars or running boards, Maxe’s premium range of automotive accessories for bakkies, SUVs and trucks are available from all leading dealerships and fitment centres. The latest CAITA computer software, combined with a highly technical team, ensures that Maxe’s clients are guided through the entire development process from beginning to end, thus ensuring that they receive the ideal product for their requirements. Maxe achieved ISO 9001 accreditation in 2006 which it has maintained ever since.
Is your car really as safe as you think it is? The importance of Airbag Compatibility Testing (compliance of nudge bars) and testing of all side bars cannot be over-emphasized. This testing ensures that the vehicle’s original design integrity is maintained and the airbags activate only in the way they have been designed to.
It is considered somewhat irresponsible for customers / dealers to fit a non-approved bar to a vehicle which could, due to inferior quality, result in the ill-timed activation of the vehicle’s airbag and the possible death or injury of the occupants. In addition to this is the risk of compromising the warranty offered on the vehicle through fitting non-approved parts.
Maxe has a substantial Research and Development department, part of their responsibility being to ensure that all approved products are fully tested and compliant with the manufacturer’s warranty. Without going into any boring detail some of the tests undertaken by Maxe include:-
Only once these critical tests have been undertaken and the manufacturer’s specifications complied with will a product be officially approved.
The Maxe design, quality, research and development effort that goes into the manufacture of every Maxe product ensures that the safety of the driver and his family is in no way compromised. Maxe ensures that the driver of each vehicle, fitted with a Maxe product, is able to enjoy the unaffected full integrity and design of the manufacturer’s product.
